Oral & Maxillofacial surgery
The multidisciplinary team at Medeor Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Centre focus on the problems related to the hard and soft tissues of the face, mouth and jaws. The fully fledged centre is dedicated to deal with complex treatments that may require more invasive procedures or deeper levels of sedation, such as extraction of compacted wisdom teeth, corrective jaw surgery for a misaligned bite, cleft lip/palate surgery and reconstructive surgery after traumatic dental injury or facial trauma. Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery is a dental surgical specialty which involves the diagnosis, surgery and adjunctive treatment of diseases, injuries and defects involving both the functional and aesthetic aspects of the hard and soft tissues of the face and the oral cavity.
The department specialises in temporomandibular joint (TMJ) treatment, maxillofacial trauma and dental implants. In addition to these highly specialised procedures the department also treats paediatric cases, including congenital benign growths and other dental procedures that are required to be performed under general anesthesia.
More simply put, the oral and maxillofacial surgeon is the orthopaedic and the plastic surgeon of the facial region. He or she is an individual who addresses problems ranging from the removal of impacted teeth, replacement of teeth with dental implants, repair of facial fractures, correction of misaligned jaw, treatment of jaw joint disorders, diagnose and treatment of face and jaw pathology and correction of congenital facial deformities.
